Cannabis Tourism Council Meeting + The Importance of Public Health, Safety & Education

Join the Cannabis Tourism Council as it continues to demystify the hemp and cannabis tourism segment, enabling California’s travel industry stakeholders to confidently embrace and integrate cannabis and hemp-related products and services into their model, to safely serve and accommodate visitor interest.

The increasing availability of cannabis across many US states, including California, is attracting cannabis connoisseurs and novices alike. Residents of prohibition states are flocking to these bastions of cannabis freedom. However, unlike alcohol, there is a lack of public education about how to use cannabis safely (thanks to a Just Say No style approach). And while there are an increasing number of reliable internet sources, education must be a component of cannabis tourism on the ground as well as on the web.

Dr. Amanda Reiman, a Northern California-based social ethnobotanist, will cover potential health and safety issues that can arise in cannabis tourism, how businesses can help address and prevent these issues, and what this means for marketing cannabis tourism in a responsible yet intriguing way.

Dr. Reiman has studied the relationship between people, cannabis, and greater society for over 20 years. As a pioneer in the field of cannabis and social science, she was one of the first to explore the use of cannabis as a substitute for alcohol and other drugs. She earned her PhD from UC Berkeley, where she was a professor for ten years teaching Substance Abuse Treatment, Drug Policy, Sexuality and Social Work and Research Methods.

She was also the Head of Research and Patient Services at Berkeley Patients Group, The Manager of Marijuana Law and Policy at the Drug Policy Alliance, and the VP of Community Development for Flow Cannabis Company.
