REFORM CIPA BRIEFING
The California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA)—a 1960s wiretapping law—is being misused by trial attorneys to file frivolous lawsuits against organizations who are complying with modern digital privacy laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
As a result, many nonprofits, tourism boards, and businesses are being sued for operating standard websites using analytics and tracking functions that are legal under CCPA.
Join us virtually on April 22 as Joshua Heller, political consultant for the Reform CIPA coalition, discusses how SB 690 can stop these predatory lawsuits and protect businesses, while still preserving strong consumer protections.
