The 2012 California Travel Summit (which will be held in Sacramento next June) is seeking nominations of individuals for the following awards:
F. Norman Clark Tourism Champion of the Year Award:
The F. Norman Clark Tourism Champion of the Year recognizes excellence in California Tourism, for activities in a specific year or to recognize a body of work in tourism. The award recognizes activities which have contributed to building the image of California and for contributing to increasing visitor arrivals to the state.
Restaurateur/Chef of the Year Award:
The Chef of the Year Award is given specifically for an individual chef or restaurant that has created a dining establishment and experience that effectively marries the culinary arts with the tourism industry. In other words, they have developed an eating establishment and experience that has become as much as a tourism attraction as it is a restaurant.

Many of these chefs and their establishments have become landmarks which cause travelers to often go out of their way or make a special trip, just to enjoy the atmosphere and culinary offerings the chef offers.

The Chef of the Year, the restaurants, and the individuals who establish them, often have put their owner's financial well being "on the line" to develop a business and a menu that both excites our taste buds and challenges our spirit of romance/adventure/discovery, while becoming an important part of California's travel industry.
Winery of the Year Award:
Over the last several years, the nominating committee has had some great nominations for Winery of the Year. A major component to the decision process goes beyond the winemaker's excellent wine. It also includes the winery's contribution to developing the California tourism brand. The award is intended to recognize innovation, success and commitment/contributions to the travel industry.
CalTravel Award for the Promotion and Advancement of Tourism (National):
This award is given to the individual who has had a dramatic impact in promoting the interests of tourism on a national basis.
Tourism Stewardship of the Year Award:
The Steward of the Year award is given to the individual or organization that has done the most to protect, preserve, restore, improve, expand, or otherwise enhance California's natural, cultural, or historical treasures. While there are many worthy candidates in this category, nominee efforts should not only benefit the historic, cultural, or natural site, but demonstrate a positive influence upon and the opportunity to partner with California Tourism.
California Tourism Award for Excellence in Advocacy:
This award is given to an elected individual at the state or local level who has fostered and advanced the concerns of travel, tourism and/or hospitality. The deserving individual may have championed one or many significant tourism related issues or causes during the past year.
Industry "Under 30" Leader:
This award is presented to the individual, under 30 years of age, who has contributed significantly, through their individual efforts or organization to the promotion of Travel,Tourism and/or Hospitality. The recipient may be affiliated with an organization or initiative that is either California or National in scope.
Tourism Industry Emerging Leaders Award:
In celebration of CTA's "30th Summit Anniversary" and looking to our future, we are excited to introduce a new award during the June 2012 Conference... the Tourism Industry "Under 30" Emerging Leaders Award. This award will recognize individuals, 30 years of age or younger, who have contributed through their individual efforts or organization, to the support and or promotion of Travel, Tourism and/or Hospitality. What a wonderful opportunity as an industry leader yourself to nominate a special individual from your organization, or other travel related business who has demonstrated a talent that has positively impacted our industry. Consider any individual(s) who you feel should be acknowledged as a true "Emerging Leader" and who exhibits the skills, talents, attitudes and initiative that designates them as an "emerging leader". Don't miss out on this opportunity for them to be recognized at our June 2012 CTS as we acknowledge tourisms "Under 30" Emerging Leaders.
